| How long will a veneer last? |
| Veneers are intended to last for many years. The exact length of time depends on the individual life style and habits i.e. veneers should be cared for just like your normal teeth. Veneers can chip just like normal teeth average they have a life span of approximately 10 to 15 years after which they will begin to look aged just like normal teeth. At this point you can choose to have them replaced with new ones if or when a veneer breaks they can either be repaired or replaced with the new ones. |
| How are teeth prepared for veneers? |
| Some of the outer enamel surface of the teeth is removed. This is to make the teeth the desired shape and to ensure permanent bonding when the veneers are fitted. The amount of enamel removed normally 0.5 – 0.7 mm for reasonably straight teeth. This amount does increase if the teeth are crooked or extremely discolored. A local anesthetic will be used to make sure that there is no discomfort the procedure. Once the teeth have been prepared an impression is taken which will be sent to the dental technician so that veneer can be made. |
| Will I need temporary veneers? |
| It is preferable to have temporary veneers after the preparation so that you will have an idea of the appearance of the final restorations and any alterations can be made at this point. This is a great opportunity to test drive your new smile before this veneers are fitted. |
